Mambo Mukuwapasi, born Alfred Chiyangwa, is a renowned Afro-fusion performer deeply rooted in traditional music. Through his record label, MM Music (Mambo Mukuwapasi Music), he strives to share his vision with a wider audience. His mission is to preserve, promote, and foster the rich and diverse African heritage through captivating cultural dance performances, high-quality instruction for children and youth in dance, drama, instrumental music, vocal music, and conservation of natural resources.

Hailing from Chikwaka Goromonzi’s Ward 11 Fungai Village in Mashonaland East, the birthplace of the legendary Jerusalema dance, Mambo Mukuwapasi has made significant contributions to the cultural landscape. In 2002, he founded Ngoma Dzepasi Arts Unlimited (NDAU), a national award-winning ensemble that showcases a unique blend of Zimbabwean dances, earning them the title of national traditional cultural ambassadors. As the lead singer, songwriter, dancer, music instructor, adjudicator, and cultural ambassador for NDAU, Mambo Mukuwapasi is a true custodian of his cultural heritage. Additionally, he established Dzimwe raGutu Cultural Industry, a creative cultural center in his community, further solidifying his commitment to promoting and preserving African traditions.

International school performance

One of my many ‘give back to the community’ projects has paved the way for me to be part of this year’s Harare International School (HIS) International Day celebrations. I launched this program in September at Kadyamadare Primary School, which has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Harare International School spanning over 20 years. I’m thrilled to be part of this joint initiative, teaching traditional Zimbabwean dances to both schools. I look forward to welcoming students from both schools to my culture center next year as part of their ‘Explore Zimbabwe’ program.
